Influence of gas and energy market liberalisation on employment in EU-25 countries

Scope of the project

ECORYS Polska as a member of a consortium with ECOTEC Research and Consulting and COWI has conducted a research commissioned by DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities between December 2005 and November 2006.

The aim of the project was to assess the influence (quality and quantity) of implemented EU directives which liberalised the gas and energy market on employment in these sectors. Moreover the aim of the research was to identify good practice among companies from the gas and energy sector in employment restructuring.

The task of ECORYS Polska was to review gas and energy sectors focusing on employment level, structures and restructuring in 10 new EU member states as well as Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. Moreover, we have conducted a detailed questionnaire research among companies, employers organisations and trade unions in states mentioned. The third element of our work was to elaborate on a report covering an analysis of trends in development in these two sectors in Poland, together with a detailed case study of a Polish company which had valuable experience in restructuring.

Person responsible for completing the project in Poland was Katarzyna Matuszczak
